For years, the concept of self-love has been neglected. Loving oneself was seen as an indecent phenomenon, a manifestation of narcissism and the height of selfishness. For generations, self-sacrifice and silently enduring all inconveniences and injustices were socially glorified. Taking care of oneself was considered a whim, and setting boundaries was, at best, seen as inappropriate.
Fortunately, the world, though slowly, is changing, and social awareness is growing. We sometimes still feel the gaze of older generations upon us when we clearly say NO, but today we have the courage not only to express this dissent but also to defend it. We know that self-love is the foundation of everything healthy, stable, and safe. By loving ourselves, we are able to listen to our needs and make decisions that are good for us.
