This sentence sounds like a contradiction, but it is precisely within it that the most human truth lies. Love knows no commands. It doesn't shut its doors when a shared everyday life falls apart. It doesn't wear away with dates, decisions, and agreements. Love can last in the strangest places, even where there is no longer a relationship. It is a feeling that we carry within ourselves, it didn't disappear on the day we said "enough" to each other. It didn't evaporate when silence fell between us. Love has something of fire about it, but it also has something of ash. It can smoulder long after the flame has no right to exist anymore. And it is in this smouldering that the greatest lesson lies.

Love can hurt and lead you at the same time. It can wound and heal at the same time. It can become a bridge to something none of us previously foresaw. The love that stops flowing towards another person begins to seek an outlet in…
