Katarzyna Dziewa

My essay series „Beneath the Surface of Things” is an encounter with the people and stories of objects that accompany them on their journey. It tells the story of what we take with us when we change places, and what – despite the passage of years – remains part of our identity. By education, I am a teacher and journalist, with many years of experience in education and the media. I am the co-author of the radio programme „Irish Peculiarities”. I have been living and working in Ireland for almost two decades. My main interest lies in people – their memory, sensitivity, and the way in which they record their lives through the experience of emigration. In my writings, I do not seek sensation, but meaning. I believe that a story told with mindfulness can become a mirror and a space for self-encounter.
