CKU Board members interview

CKU Board members share their views on two new initiatives: the Symposium of Polish Women in Ireland and its magazine, Portrety Emigracji.

Aneta Stępień: I’ve approached the board members of Centre for Counselling and Therapy (CKU) for comments about the CKU”s new initiatives: the Symposium of Polish Women in Ireland and its magazine, a quarterly Portrety Emigracji. The main areas of interest were 1) what value and contribution they see in the magazine created by Polish emigrants, mainly by women with a focus on women and 2) what are their expectations, suggestions and concerns for the quarterly given their role as board members of CKU.

Tom Doyle: As a board member of CKU, my main interest in the magazine is around the contribution it makes to advancing the mission of CKU. I think that should be a guiding principle of the editorial team. The Polish community in Ireland, in my view, is the primary stakeholder in CKU. Any initiative that builds relationships with that community and involves them in the work of our organisation is welcome. 
I also welcome the fact that the magazine is produced by members of the community. Including some English content will help in informing other communities and funding bodies of our work. I do have a concern about the time and financial resources required for the magazine production.
