Alicja Grabowska and Michał Cejer are travellers who have visited sixty countries, primarily by hitchhiking. The project Together Through the World it is their way of life, based on freedom, trust, courage and openness to the world. We are recording our conversation on Zoom, connecting from different corners of the world: Alicja and Michał are in New Zealand, and I am in Ireland. In this interview, they will talk about what their daily life on the road is like, what this lifestyle gives them, about their loving relationship and the world they are traversing.
Maja Izabela Zahorska: How did you meet?
AliceWe met at university. We studied at the University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk on the same course: tourism and recreation. Then for our Master's degrees: Michał went for sports, I stayed with tourism and recreation. And actually, it was only after we finished our studies that our hearts finally came together.
MichaelI don't know why you've forgotten about this, but I'll add that we actually met at the compulsory summer camp at the University of Physical Education. We had windsurfing lessons. We were blown to the other end of the lake and had to wait for help. A jet ski or a motorboat arrived and someone towed us back. We were just lying on the boards, belly down, because we were embarrassed in front of our group that a few of us had been pushed to the other end of the lake by the wind. And that was it, as I say, well... Shame ride – a bit of a shame ride, you could say. It turned out Ala was also from Kociewie in Pomerania.
